Why do I need to become certified?
Being certified is a validation that the holder has reached a level of competence that is accepted and valued by the IT industry globally. By obtaining your certification you can provide recognised proof of your professional achievements. These credentials enhance job and promotional opportunities, as some employers require certification as a condition of employment or for certain positions or advancement. If you are self-employed, being certified will boost customer confidence and provide you with a larger customer base.

Can I study anywhere?
ITonlinelearning courses are delivered via online tutor supported self study courses, so you can study anywhere you have broadband access. If you do not have broadband then we can provide training on CD-ROMs

Are the Certifications Recognised Qualifications?
The Certifications we offer are Vendor specific and industry standard. Our certifications are mainly Cisco and Microsoft which jointly dominate all hardware and software in companies globally. The majority of IT career opportunities are centred on mastering Cisco and Microsoft technologies. Exams are conducted by Prometric or Pearson Vue at approved testing centres across the UK.

Are exams included in my course fees?
No, you can take your exams at anytime and you need to book your exams through Prometric or Pearson Vue when you are ready. Some training companies include your exam fees upfront which make the initial price of the courses more expensive and less affordable. Exam costs vary, but a Microsoft exam costs approximately £90.

When am I ready to take my exam?
Once you have achieved 95% + at least 3 times with your exam simulator.

How do I find my closest Exam centre and book an exam?
Prometric or Pearson Vue have approved exam centres across the UK and the world. Search for your closest centre on their website or call them and they will be happy to assist:

Pearson Vue
Tel: 0800-783-2210
Prometric
Tel: 0800-592-873

Can I retake the exams if I do not pass first time?
Yes, if a student is unsuccessful in passing an exam, then the exam body will let you retake the exam, however different vendors have different policies. The time between Comptia exam retakes is 2 weeks, Cisco is 5 days and Microsoft is 5 days.

How much time do I need to devote to studying?
Most of our student's study anywhere between 6 and 15 hours per week.

Where do I find IT jobs?
Thousands of job vacancies are advertised on a daily basis by employers and specialist recruitment agencies. Simply search for jobs under the different job boards listed under Job Search in the Resources Menu.

What if I have a question about the course material or content?
All of our courses include technical support and live mentor tutor support for up to one year. You can email our certified technical support personnel who will answer any question you have about your training program and also use our live mentor service to talk to your tutor 1-to-1.

What type of equipment do I need to take an online course?
All you need is a multimedia enabled computer and an Internet connection. Multimedia-rich courses may require a more powerful computer to display movies and run interactive simulations. Furthermore, a broadband connection is recommended, as the multimedia portions of the site may be prohibitively slow over a dial-up connection.

Which browser should I use?
We develop on Windows internally, so both Internet Explorer and Firefox/Mozilla are fully supported. However, Internet Explorer does seem to be prone to viruses, spyware, and interference from 3rd party security applications such as virus scanners, firewalls, and traffic monitors. If Internet Explorer doesn't work, often Firefox does work successfully. Other browsers, including Apple browsers, will work successfully for 99.9% of training, but we do occasionally have compatibility problems in the Microsoft simulations, such as right-clicks that don't register correctly.

Which web browsers/operating systems are supported?
This site was designed to run under Internet Explorer 5+ under any version of MS Windows and Firefox/Mozilla on Windows. The site works under other systems as well, but we may not be able to offer phone support for all alternate browsers and operating systems. As of this writing, the site runs well under all Windows, Apple, and Linux browsers, as long as they have a current Adobe Flash plug-in.

Why won't the videos play, or why can't I hear the audio?
We make every attempt to stay up to day with video streaming technology, so you may not have the latest plug-ins for viewing online multimedia. Over the past few years, we have consolidated all of our training to run with nothing more than the Adobe Flash plug-in, which can be downloaded on the Adobe homepage (click the "Get Flash Player" icon)

How can I make the videos larger?
In most programs, there are 2 types of videos. We refer to these as "head shots" and "full screens". A head shot is typically a video of the instructor speaking, and the full screen is a capture of the instructor's screen while he or she demonstrates software. The head shot videos are filmed at 320x240, and the full screens videos are filmed at 800x600 (or 640x480 for older titles).

320x240 and 800x600 are the native resolution for each type of video, and this cannot be changed. You can decrease the resolution of your desktop which will have the effect of making everything look bigger. A screen resolution of 1024x768 is optimal. You can also right-click videos and play them in "full screen" which means literally take up the whole screen. But in both of these cases, you are merely making the dots bigger and may lead you to think the video is more "blurry", but it is not. It is the exact same no matter how big you play it.

Where did the "Simulations" button go?
For a majority of the online courses, we have integrated the simulations into the LEARN button material. You can identify the simulations by the icon: icon

Why were the simulations moved?
The simulations were created using Macromedia Director, which requires users to download a large plugin. In order to integrate the simulations into the same list with the video training, we converted them to Flash format. The Flash plugin is much smaller than the Director plugin, and it is already required for the rest of the site, meaning most users will only need a single plugin to access all the training content for a given course. This format also gives us the ability to put each simulation directly after the videos that explain the topic covered by the simulation.
